Praça da Figueira

Lisbon, Portugal

The most important hospital of the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries was located in this present day square, but because of the devastating earthquake of 1755, the hospital and the majority of the buildings here were destroyed.  This square was also home to the main market of the city until it was knocked down in the 1950s.
